Never Share an OTP: How Gaming Account Takeovers Happen

· OKWins Guide team

One-time passwords (OTPs) exist to prove it’s really you. That’s exactly why scammers want them. Share a single OTP and you can lose a gaming account, a bank balance or both within minutes. Here is how the tricks work. For login basics, see our OK Win login guide.

Four common takeover tricks

TrickWhat they sayWhat really happens
Fake support call“Your withdrawal is stuck, tell me the code we sent.”The code resets your password
Wrong-number OTP“I sent my code to your number by mistake.”The code logs them into your account
Remote-access app“Install this app so I can fix it.”They see every OTP on your screen
SIM swapNothing, since you never hear from themYour number is moved to their SIM

Signs your account is at risk

What to do in the first hour

  1. Change your password from a trusted device, and change it on your email too.
  2. Contact the platform’s in-app customer service. For OK Win, see our customer care guide.
  3. If your SIM stopped working, call your mobile operator from another phone.
  4. If money was taken, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in.
  5. Uninstall any remote-access or unknown apps.

How to verify a support contact is real

If a contact fails any of these, end the conversation and start a fresh one from inside the app yourself.

Rules that prevent most takeovers

One more habit worth building: read every OTP message in full before doing anything. Most bank and platform OTP messages say what the code is for, such as a login, a password reset or a payment. If the message describes something you didn’t start, the right response is to do nothing with the code and change your password.
